The Gambia's agricultural transformation agenda has received a significant boost with the award of a GMD 29.4 million contract under the Gambia Inclusive and Resilient Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (GIRAV). The contract has been awarded to 20'S Electrical and Plumbing, supporting ongoing efforts to strengthen agricultural infrastructure, improve value chains, and enhance resilience across the country's farming sector.
The award forms part of a World Bank-funded initiative aimed at promoting inclusive agricultural growth, increasing productivity, and supporting rural economic development in The Gambia.
World Bank-Backed Agricultural Development Project
According to the contract award notice, 20'S Electrical and Plumbing secured the procurement package identified as GM-CPCU-537542-CW-RFB. The contract, valued at GMD 29,418,680, was awarded on 3 June 2026 and published on 15 June 2026.
The procurement falls under the Gambia Inclusive and Resilient Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (GIRAV), financed by the World Bank under Project ID P173070. The project is designed to improve agricultural competitiveness while strengthening resilience to climate-related and economic challenges.
Strengthening Agricultural Value Chains
Agriculture remains one of the most important sectors of The Gambian economy, providing employment and income for a large portion of the population. Through the GIRAV Project, investments are being directed toward infrastructure development, value chain enhancement, market access improvements, and climate-resilient agricultural practices.
The awarded contract is expected to contribute to the development of essential project infrastructure that supports agricultural production, processing, storage, and distribution systems. Such investments are critical for reducing post-harvest losses, improving efficiency, and increasing the profitability of agricultural enterprises.
20'S Electrical and Plumbing Secures Strategic Award
Gambia-based 20'S Electrical and Plumbing emerged as the successful bidder through a competitive procurement process conducted under World Bank procurement guidelines.
The contract award highlights the company's capability to participate in development-focused infrastructure projects and reinforces the important role of local businesses in delivering donor-funded initiatives. The project is also expected to create employment opportunities and stimulate economic activity within local supply chains.
Economic and Rural Development Impact
The GIRAV Project is a key component of The Gambia's strategy to modernize agriculture and promote inclusive growth. By strengthening agricultural value chains and supporting rural infrastructure development, the project aims to improve farmer incomes, enhance food security, and increase resilience to climate risks.
World Bank-supported investments continue to play a vital role in helping The Gambia build a more productive, sustainable, and competitive agricultural sector.
Looking Ahead
With the contract now awarded, 20'S Electrical and Plumbing is expected to begin implementation activities under the GIRAV Project. As project work progresses, stakeholders will be closely monitoring its contribution to agricultural development, rural livelihoods, and long-term economic resilience across The Gambia.
